On this day in 2020 Manchester City beat Aston Villa to lift the Carabao Cup for the third year in a row.
It was a deserved victory for Pep Guardiola’s men, who were in control throughout at Wembley Stadium, where Sergio Aguero and Rodrigo scored to seal our success.
The Argentine steered home Man of the Match Phil Foden’s knock down to give City a 20th minute lead and Rodrigo extended our advantage on the half hour mark with a well-placed header from Ilkay Gundogan’s corner.
Mbwana Samatta’s header four minutes before the break kept Villa within touching distance and, whilst City remained in control, Claudio Bravo was required to make a brilliant reflex save from Bjorn Engels in the closing stages to preserve our lead.
