On this day in 2012 Manchester City thrashed Aston Villa 5-0 in the Premier League.

Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez scored a brace apiece after David Silva had opened the scoring as Roberto Mancini’s side’s unbeaten home run stretched to 36 league games.

Villa proved more than a match in the opening 45 minutes, restricting the hosts and creating chances of their own before Silva reacted quickest in the area to break the deadlock from close range.

Aguero made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Andreas Weimann was penalised for handball and when team-mate Barry Bannan committed the same offence, Tevez converted from 12-yards.

From there City were in total control and Aguero got his second of the day with a deflected effort, before Tevez tapped in at the far post to complete the rout.
