With captain Vincent Kompany returning from a two-month injury layoff, City took the lead two minutes before half-time when Gabriel Jesus marked his first start by setting Raheem Sterling up to score.

Sterling raced clear of the Palace defence before calmly converting and Leroy Sane doubled the lead from close range to net his third goal in as many games after being picked out by David Silva’s slide rule pass.
