In former Reds’ boss Louis Van Gaal’s first derby, Chris Smalling was sent off before half-time in a feisty affair.

The defender picked up two bookings, the first for charging down Joe Hart’s clearance and the second for a foul on James Milner and Manuel Pellegrini’s side made the visitors pay at the Etihad Stadium.

Yaya Toure started the move which led to the breakthrough, picking a hole in the United defence which allowed Gael Clichy to cut back for Aguero, who fired a powerful drive past David De Gea to secure all three points.
