Ahead of this weekend's trip to Newcastle, we look back on a famous night at St James' Park in years gone by.

Raheem Sterling’s goal was enough to earn Pep Guardiola‘s title chasers the three points on Tyneside and extend our lead at the top of the table to an incredible 15 points. That’s before the turn of the year, too!

It also represented a new Premier League record as we managed our 18th successive victory in the top-flight.

Classic replay | Newcastle 0-1 City

Guardiola and his players were hungry for success after a trophyless first campaign in Manchester for the Catalan.

City’s possession was well over 80 per cent for most of the game, with Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan orchestrating the match from midfield, and ultimately the margin of victory could have been greater but for the St James’ Park woodwork.

The goal - City’s 200th under Guardiola - arrived thanks to a wonderful chipped pass from assist king De Bruyne.

Sterling didn’t have to break stride before squeezing the ball in at Rob Elliot’s near post for his 17th of the season.
