On this day four years ago, City travelled to St James' Park on the back of an incredible record-breaking run.

Pep Guardiola‘s all-conquering side journeyed to the north east having won the previous 17 Premier League matches.

In fact, just two points had been dropped all season as the sky blue machine powered on relentlessly.

But Rafa Benitez’s determined Magpies were desperate to end that run in front of a sell-out St James’ Park.

Raheem Sterling, however, had other ideas, netting what would be the only goal of a tough 90 minutes just past the half-hour mark.

That made it 18 wins on the bounce, and sent City 15 points clear at the top - and this was still in December!
