Roberto Mancini’s men, down to ten on the stroke of half time, battled to a deserved 4-3 victory against a spirited Norwich side.
A quickfire double from Edin Dzeko handed City a two-goal advantage inside four minutes, but Anthony Pilkington halved the deficit soon after from a deflected free-kick.
Samir Nasri was then given his marching orders after clashing with Sebastien Bassong with half time approaching, but Sergio Aguero restored our two-goal lead just five minutes after the restart.
Norwich skipper Russel Martin gave the hosts hope of a comeback when he headed home after the hour, but Dzeko’s powerful near-post effort struck the woodwork before bouncing into the net off Canaries goalkeeper Mark Bunn just four minutes later.
And Mancini’s men held on for victory despite Martin scrambling home his second of the night in a breathless encounter at Carrow Road.
