Deepdale was the setting for our last encounter in the 2019-20 Carabao Cup third round, which City won 3-0 thanks to Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus’ efforts and a Ryan Ledson own goal.
Pep Guardiola handed Taylor Harwood-Bellis a debut alongside Eric Garcia at centre-half, but despite their tender years, there was still plenty of experience in attack and the visitors took the lead after a fine solo effort from Sterling.
The winger then turned provider for Jesus to double our lead with a low drive and the scoring was complete before half-time as Ledson’s attempts to block a David Silva cross saw the Preston midfielder turn the ball past goalkeeper Connor Ripley.
