On this day in 2014, Manchester City evidenced our Premier League title credentials with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

Sergio Aguero opened the scoring with his 50th Premier League goal as Manuel Pellegrini’s side delivered a commanding performance to leapfrog Arsenal at the top of the league.

The Argentine steered David Silva’s through ball into the far corner to give City a 15th minute lead, which was doubled shortly after half-time when Yaya Toure converted a penalty after Danny Rose was sent off for a foul on Edin Dzeko.

The Bosnian added a third two minutes later before Etienne Capoue pulled one back for the hosts, but City ensured the scoreline reflected our dominance with late goals from Stevan Jovetic and Vincent Kompany.

A deflection helped Jovetic’s angled drive into the bottom corner, before captain Kompany reacted quickest to smash home a loose ball at a corner.
