And just five minutes later the game was put to bed when Kevin De Bruyne’s effort on goal after turning away from Phil Jones ricocheted into the net off the rapidly retreating Andreas Pereira.
Marcus Rashford pulled one back for United in the second half but the damage had already been done at Old Trafford as City cruised to a memorable and deserved Manchester derby win.
