This was the game in which Mario Balotelli attempted the infamous back heeled effort when through on goal, much to the frustration of Roberto Mancini.
The Italian had already given the City the lead from the penalty spot when he was picked out in the area by David Silva, only to spin and back heel the ball wide of the goal.
Edin Dzeko looked visibly annoyed and it was a feeling shared by the manager, who substituted Balotelli shortly after.
Mike Magee equalised for the home side with a stunning 20-yard effort and with neither side able to find another goal the game went to penalties, where, after reaching the ninth round, Joe Hart stepped up to net the winning spot kick.
