Pep Guardiola says City’s Etihad fans will have a crucial role to play in Wednesday’s huge Champions League clash at home to Club Brugge.

City round off our European league fixtures with what is a must-win assignment against the Belgians.

Victory would assure us of a place in the top 24 of the Champions League composite table and so secure a place in next month’s two-legged last-16 play-offs.

Anything else however and we would be eliminated.

With the stakes so high, addressing the media at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, the boss pointed to the key role the fans can play in an effort to help secure victory.

“As much as they can will be fine. We have to do the rest,” Pep pointed out.

City v Club Brugge | Match preview

“Of course, if we perform well, and we will be in a good rhythm, they will be there like they were against Chelsea in the last game, that we felt more than ever this session that they were with us  even though the start was really, really tough.

“We played against them years ago and they’ve made a step up in how aggressive they are, and they play really well with the ball. We have to perform really well to win the game.”
