Just 77 days after the conclusion of the last campaign, we were back at Wembley to face Manchester United again, this time in the traditional season curtain raiser.
With some players still to return following a summer at the Euros, City started with a youthful side that included four Academy graduates in the line-up after impressing on the preseason tour to the United States.

City fans were given our first glimpse of exciting summer signing Savinho and as part of an impressive cameo, the Brazilian combined superbly with Oscar Bobb to tee up birthday boy Bernardo Silva for an 89th minute equaliser.
At full-time, the clash went straight to penalties with Ederson pulling off a wonderful save from Jadon Sancho’s spot kick before Manuel Akanji secured a 7-6 win in sudden death.
