Pep Guardiola‘s men held our nerve to win 7-6 in a penalty shootout after the two sides couldn’t be separated in normal time.
Alejandro Garnacho had given our rivals the lead in the 82nd minute, but City responded as stoppage time approached when Bernardo Silva headed home Oscar Bobb‘s cross.
And although Bernardo saw his penalty saved in the shootout, Ederson denied Jaden Sancho and Jonny Evans fired over to allow Manuel Akanji to wrap up the victory.
It’s our first Community Shield win since 2019, when we also beat Liverpool on penalties, and our Matchday Live guests were in party mood after the final whistle.
