City face Arsenal at Wembley on Sunday as we aim for more silverware following a terrific Treble across 2022/23.
That’s not the only additional competition – outside the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup – we are in this coming season, with the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup also added to our calendar.
Guardiola says they’re a ‘good opportunity’ to bolster our honours list.
MATCH PREVIEW | CITY V ARSENAL
“Normally when you win the titles that we won they give you a chance to play for new ones – Community Shield and Sevilla next week and in Saudi Arabia in winter time”, the manager told waiting media at the CFA.
“[It] will be a good opportunity [to win another trophy]. Of course, we are going to try.
“We know the situation we are in right now. We finish two weeks after Arsenal. We start two weeks after Arsenal.
“We are not in the best way but it is a final, hopefully our mentality can help us to compete and try to win the title.”
With Sunday on the horizon, Guardiola believes there will be ‘highs and lows’ in these early stages of the 2023/24 campaign as City look to hit their stride after the amazing exploits of the Treble-winning season.
Despite a shorter-than-normal summer after the season was extended with FA Cup and Champions League triumphs, Guardiola is hopeful the competitiveness of his players will help them hit the heights once more.
He added: “There will be highs and lows. We have to try to avoid dropping too much, to not let the opponents, especially in the Premier League and first stages of the Champions League, run away.
“Everyone except Mateo [Kovacic], the players I know quite well. They are incredible competitors. We will push each other and challenge each other. We will be there.”
