Maresca was in charge of seven Premier League wins to start the campaign – a record! – but the Blues have now lost three on the spin to Aston Villa, Brighton and Nottingham Forest.
The manager spoke to City Studios on the full-time whistle at the City Ground and bemoaned the beginning of the game as the hosts got a foothold in proceedings thanks to goals from Jair Cunha and Liam Delap.
Rayan Cherki gave the visitors hope only for former Academy graduate Delap to score a decisive third with City chasing the equaliser.
Maresca spoke of his frustration at both the intensity of his team in those opening stages as well as losing some key duels during the 90 minutes.
But he also sounded a reflective note as he looks to take stock ahead our next game against Fulham a week on Saturday at the Etihad.
“We know well what we are doing well and we also know what we need to improve,” he said.
“We are going to use that to understand and try to avoid these kinds of things in the future.”
