Enzo Maresca says the City fans will have a crucial role to play when Paris Saint-Germain visit the Etihad on Wednesday night.

The backing from the travelling Blues was magnificent at Anfield on Sunday with Maresca and his players making a specific point of thanking the City fans in the wake of a fine 3-0 victory against Liverpool.

Now the focus is trained on the return of the UEFA Champions League – and specifically the mouth-watering visit of Luis Enrique’s back-to-back European champions.

And addressing the media at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, the boss said he hoped the Etihad crowd, where former manager Pep Guardiola will be amongst those in attendance, could help produce another special atmosphere.

“Anfield was unbelievable. Since the beginning of the game our fans were there, they brought their passion, their voice,” the City boss said.

“Hopefully they can do that tomorrow night because we need that.

“And not only tomorrow, we also have Saturday, Ipswich at home in the Premier League, and we need to continue on that path.

“I remember the Treble season, and I know the Champions League nights were special.

“Hopefully tomorrow night can be special too.”
