Phil Foden was shown a red card midway through the first half for reacting to Bruno Fernandes’ kick in his back, leaving the Blues with three quarters of the match left to navigate at a numerical disadvantage.
It mattered little in the end, as Erling Haaland’s 60th minute strike earned all three points to continue our perfect start to the Premier League campaign.

We could have won by more, with Haaland and Enzo Fernández going close after the goal had been scored.
And the City boss says it was important that his players continued to be adventurous throughout.
“I think, in the second half, if we just wait for them and we don’t counter attack, the game would have become more difficult for us,” he said in the post-match press conference.
“Even more difficult. But with Iliman, Antoine and Erling when we have a chance to attack, we can attack.”
