Enzo Maresca is staying calm about City’s excellent start to the season and says he is not thinking too far ahead.

His side cruised into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with an impressive 5-0 victory over Norwich City at the Etihad Stadium.

A debut double from Floyd Samba, along with goals from Rayan Cherki, another from fellow debutant Allan and a late strike from Academy Graduate Ryan McAidoo set up an encounter with Brighton in the next round.

Coming on the back of four wins in the Premier League and a Champions League victory over Porto in our first encounter, it’s been an excellent start to the season.

Maresca took over as manager from Pep Guardiola in the summer after an incredible decade of success and asked if he expected to make such a good start, the City boss was playing down any thoughts of getting carried away.

“No and the reason why is I said many times I am not thinking more than one week ahead and because I know in our job many things can change in a week,” he said in his postmatch press conference.

“When we started the season I was not thinking where we can be after six or seven games.

“Since day one I was just thinking about Arsenal, then Bournemouth then the game after and now tonight we’re happy for many reasons and thinking about Sunderland.”
