On Foden’s return to action after serving a three-match suspension, the England international served up a superb all-round display capped by a brilliant first half opener.
Maresca knows Foden better than most having helped coach him across City’s 2022/23 Treble winning season.
Remarkably, today’s goal was his first since last December.
But for a delighted Maresca, who oversaw a record-breaking seventh straight Premier League for table-topping City, it served as a signpost as to what Foden can provide at his free-flowing best.
“With Phil I said many times, I know him from years ago, for me he’s one of the best Premier League players,” Maresca reflected.
“And since day one it’s my duty to help him to again be one of the best players.
“I’m very happy for his goal, and hopefully it can be just the beginning of many goals and good performances.”
