Erling Haaland expects Pep Guardiola to demand even more from him after being named UEFA Men’s Player of the Year.

The Norwegian claimed the prize as part of Thursday’s Champions League group stage draw, adding to his PFA Player of the Year award earlier this week.

It comes after Haaland broke numerous records en route to claiming 52 goals in 53 appearances across a remarkable 2022/23 campaign for City.

But while he takes pride in his most recent accolade, our number nine insists he’s as motivated as ever to improve thanks to Guardiola’s guidance.

“Definitely the latter,” Haaland explained when asked if the boss was more likely to congratulate him or tell him not to relax after his latest award.

“He’ll be even tougher on me, for sure, and I like it. I want him to challenge me.

“I haven’t seen him in a while, but I look forward to seeing him and working with him again.

“Yeah, it’s true that you shouldn’t speak too much about individual awards.

“It’s true because it’s a team sport… [but] It’s always nice when someone appreciates what you’re doing on the pitch, so I’m really proud.

“Of course, it means a lot to me. It’s not the main focus, but it still means a lot.”
