Ilkay Gundogan says Manchester City’s squad depth has been crucial this season as he hailed Kevin De Bruyne’s impact off the bench against Everton.

The Belgian maestro was introduced 10 minutes from time with the scores deadlocked at 0-0 at Goodison Park and was involved in the build-up to Gundogan’s opener before netting the second to send City into the FA Cup semi-final.

Pep Guardiola has rotated his team throughout the campaign, with the entire squad contributing as we remain in contention in four competitions and Gundogan believes that collective effort is the hallmark of a great team.

“It’s very important,” he told mancity.com.

“We know that we have players on the bench every single game that can possibly make the difference, if we need it. Today was the is kind of game.

“When I scored, he (De Bruyne) had a great dribble and then Aymeric [Laporte] was able to shoot. He scored the second.

“In the biggest teams, they win like that, having players on the bench contributing in important moments. That’s what you need when you want to win.

“We are happy to have a great squad, to have a deep squad.”
