Pep Guardiola says his ‘humble’ players won’t have one eye on the Champions League decider against Real Madrid as they go into battle this weekend because winning the Premier League is so important to them.

City take on Real in a mouth-watering encounter at the Etihad on Wednesday, the winner making it through to the final in Istanbul and a date with either Inter or AC Milan.

Before that though is a top-flight tussle with Everton, who have their tails up following their 5-1 away victory over Brighton last time out.

Guardiola is sure his team will be single-minded in their pursuit of three points at Goodison Park, on Sunday at 14:00 (UK), as we aim to go four points clear of nearest rivals Arsenal - for a few hours at least.

Whether it was difficult for the players to switch mindset from Champions League to Premier League, he said: “No I don’t think so. The players are so humble and respect the opponent and they know how difficult it is at Everton because they live it and they know it.

“I am pretty convinced they will be incredibly focused in Goodison Park.

“The Premier League title is so important even though I know the Champions League is so special.

“It’s many, many months and many, many tough games, incredible effort, this is the most important thing.

“You have to train good and prepare for a Sean Dyche team.

“Three days is enough time, we are used to it, to prepare for Real Madrid with our people, our fans and try to reach a final.

“At the end we play at home in the second leg and Everton is only one hour by bus. At the end, it’s not so demanding, it’s not like playing away in Europe and after three days you have to play in the south of England against Southampton or Brighton and take a plane the day before.

“At the end, come on. What a privilege. The club takes care of us perfectly. We have to be ready to do it.”
