Pep Guardiola’s side lifted the historic trophy for the ninth time across our illustrious history following a 2-0 win over Arsenal at Wembley.
A second-half brace from Nico O’Reilly helped us to the memorable victory in the capital in front of 88,486 fans – meaning only Liverpool (10) have won the competition more than the Blues.
BERNARDO: WINNING A TROPHY IS ALWAYS SPECIAL
Our run to glory began with a 2-0 away win over Huddersfield Town before we travelled to Swansea, where City recorded a fine 3-1 success in Wales.
That victory over the Swans booked our place in the quarter-finals where we welcomed Brentford at the Etihad Stadium.
Rayan Cherki’s phenomenal strike before Savinho’s goal secured the success over the Bees which set up a two-legged semi-final with Newcastle with the first meeting to be played at St James’ Park.
Goals from Antoine Semenyo and Cherki in the North East gave us the advantage heading to the Etihad before we prevailed 3-1 to record a 5-1 aggregate victory which secured passage into the final.
Then, in the first-ever League Cup final contested between the English top-flight’s top two, O’Reilly headed home in both the 60th and 64th minute to seal a special day at Wembley.
