Colombian Duran struck to open the scoring on 16 minutes and former City Academy graduate Rogers then found the target to double Villa’s lead on 66 minutes.
Phil Foden narrowed the deficit in injury time with his first league goal of the season to give City hope of finding a late leveller.
But Villa held on to take the points and so climb above City into fifth place in the table.
