It was a stunning goal on a stunning night for Torres, who claimed a hat-trick as Pep Guardiola’s side came from behind to set a new English record of 12 successive away victories in the league.

The improvised finish caught everyone by surprise, including the man himself, who is particularly proud of the artistry of his execution.

“I honestly think it was a very beautiful goal,” he told mancity.com.

“When I did it, I was not imagining that it could be so beautiful.

“It was when I saw the replay when I realised and I’m very happy to have been given this award and I hope I could score some more beauties like that in the future.

“I don’t think I ever scored a goal like that before. It came from a set piece, which is something we work on.

“I always like to move to the near post and I just did it. It was something instinctive.”

Torres has enjoyed a fine debut season, scoring 13 times and providing three assists in a campaign notable for his versatility, with the youngster impressing in various positions across the forward line.

The 21-year-old admits he doesn’t know which is his best position and, having already lifted the Carabao Cup and the Premier League, he says winning the Champions League would be the dream end to his first season at the Etihad Stadium.

“I’m very happy,” he added.

“When I arrived here at City I already knew that it is one of the greatest clubs in the world that has to fight for everything, but it couldn’t just be words, you need to fight to achieve it.

“Now we want to put the icing on the cake at the Champions League final.”
