Toney struck deep into second half stoppage time for the visitors to snatch the three points in the final match before the break in the league season for the World Cup.

Foden admitted that the defeat was tough to take, but is already looking forward to City’s response after the World Cup.

“We’re down, we lost a game of football. We had chances to win the game definitely.

“We need to just forget about it, clear our heads, come back from the World Cup and try and go again.

“We’re not used to having this break now. So the league will feel a little bit different his year but, like I said, once we get back, we want to start winning games again and fix it.”
