Phil Foden has expressed his delight after his 91st-minute strike secured a pulsating 3-2 Premier League victory over Leeds United at a jubilant Etihad Stadium.

Foden had put us ahead after just 59 seconds, turning in expertly from a Matheus Nunes cross, before Josko Gvadiol doubled our lead before the interval.

The visitors fought back after the break, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin making it 2-1, before Lukas Nmecha levelled from the rebound after seeing his penalty saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Foden had the final say, striking into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to send us into second place in the league table.

“Honestly, my first thought was just try to get something off. Try and get a shot off,” he said when speaking about his late winner in an interview with City Studios after the game.

“When Cherki played it to me, I saw two press me straight away, and my touch went a little bit away from me than what I would like, but the first thought was to get a shot away.

“Thankfully I saw it hit the back of the net and yeah, it was a great feeling.

“Sometimes, it’s a better feeling, obviously we wouldn’t like to win it that way, but sometimes you need this when you win it late.

“It gives the team a lot of confidence.”

Foden also spoke about his first goal of the game and touched on the importance of returning to winning ways.
