Phil Foden has praised John Stones for his recent attacking exploits after the defender scored for the second match in succession to help City to a 5-0 UEFA Champions League victory over Sparta Prague.

Foden fired us ahead after just three minutes, before a spectacular Erling Haaland goal doubled our lead shortly before the hour mark.

Six minutes later, Stones met a Matheus Nunes cross with a looping header to make it 3-0 and make it back to back matches with a goal, after his last-gasp winner against Wolves last Sunday in the Premier League.

Further goals from Haaland and Matheus Nunes capped off a superb performance at the Etihad Stadium.

Stones, who has made eight appearances this season for City, also found the net late on in last month’s league draw with Arsenal, taking his tally to three goals across all competitions this term.

“Great striker isn’t it?! Johnny is always a threat when he’s up there,” said Foden.

“He’s scored two late goals now for us, in the league and one tonight. He’s a big threat.

“It’s a different format this year. The aim is to finish in the top eight.

“It’s a step in the right direction tonight but there’s still a long way to go.”
