Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki scored the goals as City got past the Turkish giants.
The Norwegian striker needed only 10 minutes to break the deadlock, latching on to a delightful Jeremy Doku pass and chipping over the advancing Ugurcan Cakir in the Galatasaray goal.
Cherki added the second just before the half hour mark, controlling another Doku pass and picking his spot from 12 yards out.
With Doku forced off shortly afterwards, Cherki took control of the game from that point, orchestrating City’s frequent attacks.
There wasn’t to be another goal though, despite Omar Marmoush, Phil Foden and Tijjani Reijnders all going close.
