There’s more to being a professional footballer than just performing on the pitch.

To be at their best, players must prioritise fitness in every aspect of their life.

To explore what that entails, Gatorade sent Cel Spellman behind-the-scenes at the City Football Academy to learn about three different parts of a player’s routine and how these learnings can apply to and fuel everyone’s own sporting routine and general lifestyle.

In the first episode of Everyday Goals, our new three-part series, Cel met up with Ruben and 1st Team Sports Science coach Tom Parry to learn about nutrition.

And in the latest installment of the series, it’s the turn of Nathan Ake and Simon Bitcon - head of strength and conditioning at the Club - to learn about the importance of pre-activation.

Simon puts Cel through his paces with a few stretching exercises, including a favourite of Erling Haaland‘s which helps him reach his explosive pace in behind defences.

Elsewhere, Nathan explains the important adaption he had to make to be ready for the demands of a busy fixture schedule at City, and how warming up correctly was essential to that process.

The series concludes with a focus on training outside but, before that, it’s over to Cel, Nathan and Simon to discuss the importance of pre-activation in helping to fuel you forward and perform at your peak.
