The City striker took his tally to 11th for the season from just eight games with his brace against the Ligue 1 side.
It was Haaland’s 50th Champions League appearance and no one has reached that milestone with more goals, with the Norwegian now having 52 in total.
That took him into the top 10 list of all-time goalscorers in the competition, overtaking Thierry Henry and moving level with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah who has played exactly twice as many games.
His first was a neat finish over the keeper from a Josko Gvardiol before an athletic header from Nico O’Reilly’s cross.
“When we arrive there, the ball from Nico was exceptional and the first goal was really fantastic,” Guardiola said.
“[He was] really good and we created another one or two and all the attacking midfielders had a chance; Phil had a chance. In general, it was really good.”
