The win now moves City up to fourth in the league table on 18 points, three behind joint leaders Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

Reflecting on the win, Guardiola was full of praise for the hard-working Sterling.

“Raheem always tries.” he said.

“I have no doubts, for a striker it’s always important to score goals and that’s what he’s done, so it’s good.”
