Pep Guardiola was delighted with the reaction of his players to a series of late blocks in our 2-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday.

City moved to within four points of Premier League leaders Arsenal following our win at the Etihad Stadium with Omar Marmoush and Antoine Semenyo getting the goals.

Guardiola’s side kept pushing to the last minute, determined not to give Wolves any hope of snatching a result.

And that spirit was clear in late blocks from Nico O’Reilly and new signing Marc Guéhi with a moment that saw them celebrate the action like a goal with Gianluigi Donnarumma, Abdukodir Khusanov and Phil Foden joining in.

“The team is defined in the last action when Nico and Marc make a block and several players hug him,” Guardiola said.

“Without that, there’s no [need for] tactics. You have to have that.

“Most of them have it and the new ones have to understand what it means to play for City, the standards we have.

“They need these kinds of situations. It takes a little time but reduces the time to do it when we are all together.”
