Rico Lewis says it's good to see City's Academy is continuing to produce top players following our 2-0 victory in Wednesday's Carabao Cup clash.

After a busy period of fixtures, which saw us go on a run of six games in the space of 18 days in three different competitions, City knew a victory in West Yorkshire would help boost our momentum.

With this also came rotation as ten Academy players were involved in the matchday squad and what better way to showcase our talent than one of our own Phil Foden scoring the opening goal.

The 25-year-old drilled his shot into the corner from 18 yards out following a quick exchange with teenage debutant Divine Mukasa.

Brothers Jaden and Reigan Heskey came on late for their first senior appearances after Savinho had smashed in a second.

“It’s so nice and it’s amazing to see that the Academy is doing so well still, producing amazing players as you’ve seen today,” Lewis said.

“The lads that came on, congratulations to them on making their debut, but it’s amazing from the outside looking in to see all of the youth coming through and doing well.”

“I think the first team philosophy and tactics are instilled from the Academy when you’re probably 10/11 years old.

“You’re trying to work on the things that are going to get you to this point, you don’t just train and work on random things for no reason and you can see that today, it looks so fluid, it looks so easy and everyone knows where everyone is and I think that’s down to the Academy coaching and the importance we have in each training session.”
