Ilkay Gundogan praised his City teammates for showcasing a ‘really good performance’ in Saturday's crucial 2-1 victory over Leeds United at the Etihad.

The captain broke the deadlock just before the 20 minute mark, after Riyad Mahrez found him in space on the edge of the penalty area, he neatly finished a sublime shot which rolled into Joel Robles’ bottom left-hand corner.

His second came less than 10 minutes later, as Mahrez again found Gundogan who fired home a near identical effort apart from that he shot into the right corner of the net this time, to put City in firm control.

Rodrigo made it a nervy finish with a late strike but City secured the win to move one step closer to lifting the Premier League title for the third consecutive season, after stretching our lead to four points at the top of the table.

Gundogan was delighted with the level of performance the team put in.

“Yes, a very important win, but also, a really good performance,” the German expressed.

“We had a lot of possession and were able to create a lot of chances, the only negative is that we weren’t able to score a third one.

“The game could’ve been over in the first half but also in the second half, we had plenty of chances, myself included, not to score a third one.”
