Ilkay Gundogan says the defeat to Leeds United on Saturday could act as a warning signal for City ahead of our UEFA Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund.

City go into the quarter-final second-leg tie 2-1 from the first game at the Etihad last week.

Leeds’ shock victory at the weekend was just our second defeat in our last 29 matches across all competitions – a run that has seen us win 27.

It’s been a remarkable sequence of results that have left our season set up beautifully ahead of the final sprint.

Gundogan says the defeat to Marcelo Bielsa’s side was a timely reminder of the standards required ahead of our game in Germany.

“Yeah, maybe it was a warning, a signal for us” he said.

“If it turns out to be like that - we will probably know after the game tomorrow, then of course I’ll take that defeat, but we went into that game to win it.

“It was not our ambition to get one point or to forget that game and focus on Dortmund. That was not the case at all.

“We know we have games to win.

“Nothing is over yet. Now we are facing a different team and after that we will focus on the other competitions.”
