The Spaniard claimed the gong ahead of Real Madrid trio Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Dani Carvajal.

He was joined at the special ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet in the French capital by City team-mates Ruben Dias and Savinho, who ended up fourth in the Kopa Trophy.

Dias was one of four City nominees for the men’s award, eventually finishing 23rd. Erling Haaland and Phil Foden were also on the 30-man shortlist, ending up fifth and 11th respectively.

Inside City, our long-running fly-on-the-wall series into everything Manchester City, follows an historic night for Rodrigo and the club itself.

Starting at the hotel, we see the players working on their suits and bow ties before heading to the gala.

There they journey along the red carpet before entering the hall and watching as football’s great and good of years gone by and the present day take to the stage.

Eventually, it’s time for the big award of the night. Rodrigo, currently out with a knee injury, is helped up on stage by those around him before delivering a beautiful, heartfelt speech.

After that, it’s party time!
