John Stones says every member of the City squad needs to be ready and raring to go when Pep Guardiola calls upon them.

The England defender has been eased back into the first team since his summer exploits with England and so far has been used sparingly.

Now fully rested, Stones says he is ready to fulfil any role the manager asks of him.

“100%. We know how long this season can be, the number of games we have, we will all play an important role during the season,” said Stones.

“It’s about being ready when called upon and grabbing that chance. Pep rotates a lot and it’s about being ready and staying fit is a massive thing for us this season.”

Asked if he enjoyed playing in more of a midfield position, Stones continued: “I love it. It’s a totally different look on the game and appreciation of the game of players who have played in there.

“I have said before about understanding the game, when to receive the ball and when to pass the ball.

“Having an appreciation of the guys who play there regularly all the manager wants is us to go and show our qualities. He’s put us there for a reason.”
