Manchester City defender John Stones believes he and his teammates share a special desire to win trophies, which consistently drives them on to success.

The England centre-half opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola’s men in the 2-0 derby win over Manchester United, which booked our place in a fourth consecutive Carabao Cup final in the process.

And Stones says City’s determination to always be the best sets them apart from their rivals.

He reflected: “I think everyone’s so hungry to win trophies and, no matter what game it is and who we are up against, the winning mentality of the lads is something so special.

“(It’s) something that’s very rare in football maybe, for a team to be… challenging for so many years.

“And it’s something that we pride ourselves on and something we’ll continue doing.

While Stones will grab the headlines for his attacking contribution at Old Trafford, it was yet another commanding display at the back for him and fellow centre-back Ruben Dias.

And he was quick to heap the praise on his defensive partner after the game.

He said of Dias: “ It’s a pleasure to play with him, how well he’s done coming into the club straight away playing so many games, playing so well.

“All credit to him, I’ll take a bit for him too! Hopefully we can keep moving forward.”
