As the first Black goalkeeper to play in English football’s top flight since the Second World War and a City in the Community Ambassador, he has been an excellent role model on and off the pitch, including to Arsenal legend, Ian Wright.

The former Manchester City goalkeeper revealed how he found out Wright used to impersonate him in the school playground as he joined Joleon Lescott to discuss the importance of Black History Month and the Black figures who have inspired and influenced their careers.
“When we had Shaun Wright-Phillips and Bradley Wright-Phillips at the Club, Ian Wright used to come down to the matches,” said Williams.
“One day I went over and introduced myself to him. He turned round and said to me: ‘Alex, when I was in school and the bell went at dinner time, I used to run down the stairs into the playground and go in goal and pretend I was Alex Williams’.”
“I had never thought of anything like that. There is Ian Wright, a superstar and someone who has done so much in football. I thought, wow, that’s brilliant.”
