Julian Alvarez says he is achieving a childhood dream by moving to one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

The Argentine striker will arrive in Manchester this weekend and join Pep Guardiola’s squad for pre-season ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Having come from River Plate, one of South America’s biggest clubs, Alvarez is well used to the scrutiny and spotlight that comes from playing at the top level.

However, the 22-year-old says that moving to Europe was always part of his long-term ambition.

“I’m very happy to be part of this club,” he said in his first interview with mancity.com.

“As a boy I always dreamed of playing in Europe, playing in the best clubs, in the major leagues and so to be here today is a privilege.

“Obviously this is a big change, but I think it has similarities with what happened to me until now: from one of the biggest clubs in South America to one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Although it has its differences, there are many things that are similar.”
