De Bruyne was in the matchday squad for the first time since the injury in our final match of 2023 against Sheffield United, where he received a standing ovation when warming up on the touchline, with the scene repeating once again during the FA Cup third round victory over Huddersfield Town, where he went on to provide an assist.

The City fans have never stopped singing the Belgian’s name in his absence and tonight, he paid tribute to those who supported him during the tough spell.

“I think honestly, it’s amazing,” he said. “I know I’m not the person who goes around and is very emotional.

“But I know and I felt what it means for all of them for me to come back.

“I try to help the team win and perform and try to do my job.

“I appreciate everything. It makes me feel very loved. It’s amazing.”
