"When Kevin has the ball, Erling knows he can run and Kevin will give it."

Those were the words of Pep Guardiola after Wednesday’s excellent 4-1 win over Arsenal in which Haaland had supplied the Belgian for both of his goals.

For much of the season it has been the other way around, with De Bruyne teeing up the Norwegian striker eight times in the Premier League alone.

That leaves them just one behind the Premier League record in terms of most goal combinations, with Mike Newell and Alan Shearer, Stan Collymore and Robbie Fowler and Harry Kane and Heung-min Son all having seasons with nine combinations.

Kyle Walker on De Bruyne and Haaland linkup

The pair have enjoyed an instant connection since Haaland’s arrival last summer and Guardiola insists the mutual understanding has come naturally, rather than through coaching.

Individually, both De Bruyne and Haaland are having spectacular seasons.

Haaland has scored 49 times across all competitions, more than any other player for an English club has achieved during the Premier League era. 33 of those have come in the Premier League, a 38-game season record and just one behind the all-time Premier League record. He also leads the way in terms of scoring in the UEFA Champions League, with 11 strikes.

As he did on Wednesday, Haaland has also contributed to opportunities for team-mates with eight assists in total.

De Bruyne became the quickest player to reach 100 Premier League assists earlier this season and leads the way in that metric again in the Premier League, with 16.

He has also scored nine times himself across all competitions.
