The Belgian midfielder started the Premier League campaign in excellent form before an injury in the September win over Brentford ruled him out of contention.
He has returned to the fold in November with three substitute appearances but is now eyeing a return to Pep Guardiola’s starting XI.
City v Feyenoord | Match preview
Speaking to the media ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Feyenoord, the 33-year-old was asked about his future beyond this season.
However, our playmaker made it clear that contract talks are on hold until he’s back to his brilliant best.
“When I started the season I knew talks would happen and then I’ve had that thing against Brentford and put everything else to the side,” he said.
“I was hoping it would be a couple of days out but it ended up being eight or nine weeks.
“For the moment, I’d rather get back first and see how I am and the rest will come. I’m not too obsessed with this right now.”
