In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Belgian, who starred in Sunday’s Manchester Derby triumph, opened up about the women in his life.
The 30-year-old spoke about the role his family and friends play to ensure he stays at the top of his game, and his hopes for their happiness and increasing opportunities.
As a father, De Bruyne says he strives for a better world for his daughter and sons, and - as one of the world’s best players - recognises the importance of allies and positive role models in the fight for equality and equity.

“Everybody has his family - his wife, his kids - and they are the support system,” he told mancity.com. “Whether something is good or bad, they are always involved.
“I’ve got my support system: my mum, my wife, my daughter... They’re the people who help me to achieve all I need to do in football and I try to help them to be the characters they want to be, and get the opportunities for their future.
“They try to help you to get better in any aspect of life and I try to help them to go forward. You try to teach them and you try to be good role models.
“I’ve always been positive about women in general, such as about the football team here at City.
“Having the experiences I have had, being in this type of environment and having a big reach in the world, I can help a little bit with that. There are a lot of people who can listen to you.
“I know life is not fair but if we can help them to get better in whatever way, we’ll do that.”
