Kevin De Bruyne believes City dealt with the pressure of playing Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena as we secured our place in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.

We held a 3-0 advantage heading into the second leg with the German champions following an electric display at the Etihad Stadium in the first, before a 1-1 draw in Munich ensured our progression.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring when he collected a slick pass from the Belgian before skipping past Dayot Upamecano and firing into the net.

Thomas Tuchel’s side equalised from the penalty spot through Joshua Kimmich with seven minutes remaining when Manuel Akanji, after a VAR review, was judged to have handled in the area.

And after booking our place in the last-four, De Bruyne said City can be proud of our performance in front of a passionate home crowd in Bavaria.

“I think going into the semis is what we wanted to do,” he said.

“I’ve played here before and in the beginning you know they’re going to come aggressive and they’re going to try and put you under pressure.

“But, I think we dealt well with the pressure. We defended when there was a tough moment and at certain times we created what we needed to create.

“In the difficult moments and I think it was a very smart game from us.

“You need to prepare everything and that’s what we did. We go again on Saturday.”

Victory over Bayern means City will face Real Madrid in the last-four, representing a repeat of last year’s last-four tie.

On that occasion, we suffered late heartbreak to miss out on the final, losing 6-5 on aggregate.

But De Bruyne explained how last season’s defeat at the same stage to Los Blancos doesn’t weigh heavy on his mind.

He added: “What happened last year, happened. I think we played really well in the two games and in the last five minutes [they] changed the course of not qualifying.

“You have to take it on the chin and move on. It happened and it doesn’t mean we didn’t play well for the majority of the two games but football is about details and it happens and you move on.

“If you play Champions League the quality is class, but we need to prepare ourselves to be ready for that, but we still have a couple of games in between.”
