Kevin De Bruyne praised the key role of his City team mates after creating Premier League history by chalking up 100 assists in record time during our 4-1 win at Southampton.

The Belgian midfielder’s 45th minute cross for Erling Haaland’s opener took him to the century landmark – and saw him reach the 100 assist figure faster than any other player.

De Bruyne achieved the feat in just 237 games. That was 56 matches quicker than previous record holder Cesc Fabregas.

But the 31-year-old was keen to highlight the role of his City teammates both past and present in helping rewrite the record books on an afternoon that saw Haaland bag a brace and Jack Grealish and Julian Alvarez also score.

“It’s working together for my team mates to score them. I try to create as much as possible and I’ve played with amazing teammates who score a lot of goals,” De Bruyne told mancity.com

“I try to understand the players I play with, and everyone has a different profile, and you need to understand what they are strong at.”

For City, it’s now eight straight wins in all competitions with Pep Guardiola’s side hitting top form at just the right time.

And De Bruyne says it’s a scenario he and his teammates are relishing as we fight for silverware on three fronts.

“Now it’s a lot of games where it’s a must win,” De Bruyne added.

“It’s nice to be in this position and hopefully we can do a good end to the season.”
