The contribution of the entire squad was crucial as Pep Guardiola’s side regained the Premier League title last season and Walker believes individuals’ willingness to prioritise the team above themselves has been a critical factor in our recent success.
Ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League game against Club Brugge, the right-back refuted the idea City’s side lacks goals, highlighting that Guardiola’s men attack as a unit rather than relying one player.
“I wouldn’t say we’ve lacked in goals because there have been a number of games where we have put in five,” he said at his pre-match press conference.
“We put five past Arsenal and five against Brugge. It’s kind of like, OK City don’t score they need a striker, but when City score five all of a sudden we are doing quite well without a striker.
“We are a team. I think this team has built itself on those foundations over the last four years. We lost Kun in the summer who was the hero, the standout, the post boy for this club.
“Apart from that, everyone is on a level playing field. There’s no egos. We all work hard for each other. We all run for each other.
“It’s 11 players on the pitch, not one, two or three superstars that everyone else runs for.”
