Joe Corrigan, Asa Hartford and Peter Barnes tell us the story of the 1976 League Cup final – 50 years on today from that wonderful Wembley win.

Shot against archive footage of that memorable afternoon, the star trio take us back to that clash with Newcastle United with the Blues aiming for a second success in the competition.

They set the scene as the coverage shows the teams coming out of the tunnel to a cacophony of noise as 100,000 fans roared them onto the pitch, led by proud manager and true legend of the football club Tony Book.

Barnes then talks us through his opening goal as he became the youngest scorer in a Wembley final at 18-years-old.

From there, Hartford discusses the remarkable winning goal from Dennis Tueart and how, if he hadn’t grabbed hold of the gleeful Geordie, he’d still be running around Wembley now.

There’s reaction to the triumph before a tribute to captain Mike Doyle, who’s sadly no longer with us and nostalgic reminiscing on Helen ‘The Bell’ Turner being invited to take part in the Lap of Honour.

It’s a wonderful rewind into our glorious history that should never be forgotten.
